2026 limit
The TFSA dollar limit for 2026 is $7,000.00. It is added to your room on January 1. Room also includes unused room from earlier years and withdrawals made in the previous year, minus contributions already made this year. Someone who was 18 and a Canadian resident in every year since 2009, and who has never contributed or withdrawn, has illustrated room of $109,000.00. That illustration is not your CRA balance.
Worked example
A TFSA with $20,000.00 today, a $7,000.00 contribution at the end of each month in equal parts, and an assumed 5% effective annual return, is projected at $122,623.07 after 10 years. The 5% is an assumption you can change. It is not a forecast, and TFSA growth is not taxed in the account.
Methodology
Annual limits from 2009 through 2026 are the CRA registered-plans table. The room illustration adds those limits from the later of 2009 and the year you turned 18. It ignores contributions, withdrawals, and years of non-residency. The projection compounds the assumed effective annual return monthly and deposits one-twelfth of the annual contribution at each month-end. Over-contribution tax of 1% per month is not calculated.
