$12,600.00
18% of earned income is $12,600.00, capped at the $33,810.00 2026 dollar limit. With unused room, the illustration is $12,600.00.
Projected balance $426,094.72. Estimated tax reduction this year $3,619.68, using the employment-income calculator and the basic personal amount only.
Worked example
Earned income of $80,000.00 last year and no pension adjustment produces new room of $14,400.00 for 2026. That is 18% of $80,000.00, which is under the $33,810.00 dollar limit. Your notice of assessment is the figure that already includes unused room and pension adjustments. This page does not know that number.
Methodology
New room is the lesser of 18% of the previous year's earned income and the 2026 RRSP dollar limit of $33,810.00, minus the pension adjustment you enter. Unused room is added only if you type it in. The CRA's own explanation of the 18% formula still uses the 2025 dollar limit as its example; the 2026 cap is taken from the registered-plans limits table.
The optional tax reduction compares the income-tax calculator with and without the contribution, for employment income and the basic personal amount only. Growth uses the same monthly compounding model as the TFSA calculator. A contribution you make in the first 60 days of a year can be deducted for the previous tax year; this tool does not apply that choice for you, and it does not state a specific deadline date.
